Security Tips

Identity Theft & Fraud Protection

Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personal information, such as your Social Security number or account information, to commit fraud or open accounts in your name. Protect yourself by following these simple precautions.

Protect Your Identity

Review your credit reports regularly for unfamiliar accounts or activity.

Get your free credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com or call 877-322-8228.

Shred documents containing personal or account information before throwing them away.

Never provide your Social Security number, account number, PIN or other sensitive information unless you know who you are dealing with.

Protect Yourself From Phone Scams

Never provide personal or financial information to an unsolicited caller.

If someone asks for sensitive information, hang up and contact the company directly using a trusted phone number.

Consider registering your phone number with the National Do Not Call Registry.

Protect Yourself Online

Use strong, unique passwords for your accounts.

Never use your Social Security number, account number or PIN as a password.

Avoid saving passwords or payment information on websites and browsers.

Log out of online banking, shopping and bill-payment websites when finished.

Keep your computer, browser and antivirus software updated.

Never enter sensitive information through a link in an unexpected email or text.

Protect Yourself From Fraudulent Emails

Be suspicious of messages offering prizes, money or deals that seem too good to be true.

Don't click links or open attachments in unexpected emails.

If an email appears to come from your bank or another company, visit the company's official website directly rather than clicking the link.

Never send your account number, PIN or Social Security number by email.

Traveling or Making Unusual Purchases

For your protection, we monitor debit card activity for unusual or suspicious transactions. If you're traveling or planning to make purchases from unfamiliar or international locations, contact Farmers State Bank of Bucklin in advance so we can help prevent legitimate transactions from being declined.

If You Suspect Identity Theft

Act quickly if you believe your identity or account information has been compromised:

Contact Farmers State Bank of Bucklin and report suspicious or unauthorized activity.

Contact the three major credit bureaus and request a fraud alert.

Report the theft to the FTC at IdentityTheft.gov

Contact local law enforcement and obtain a copy of the police report or case number.

Monitor your accounts and credit reports for additional suspicious activity.

Keep a record of all calls, reports and correspondence related to the identity theft.
